Readers are the best!

Thank you, Jill Wallace, author of the fabulous romance novel War Serenade – An Epic WWII Novel, (available on Amazon) for the following kind comments and for your review on Amazon: “I finished your divine book. I LOVED it. Absolutely LOVED it. It’s clever and funny as hell and unpredictable and complicated towards the end which I thought was very clever. What a wonderful read. I will miss Maggie and the girls…
A truly EXCELLENT work.”

“This book cracks me up – it’s hilarious!!”

“I LOVE the book. It’s funny and suspenseful. I think it could be an ongoing series like Janet Evanovich.”

“LOVED the book – I laughed out loud!”

“I am delighted by your book. It’s funny and vivid and you have made me giggle OUT LOUD – that so rarely happens. Your characters are so very separate and in themselves so discernible. You introduced them all very quickly and immediately I could SEE their differences and their dynamic. You are one funny funny girl!!! LOVING IT.”

Some of my favorites…

I attended a writers’ conference yesterday (a humbling experience), and, in almost every session, we were asked which authors we liked to read in our genre. Many of the participants had trouble pigeon-holing their work , which I found reassuring. My own novel combines humor, suspense, family and their often dysfunctional nature.

Majoring in English and literature and having taught both for years, I mostly read for escape and pleasure now, rather than delving into complex Faulknerian tomes. When I am in the mood for a mental challenge, I turn to the classics or modern authors such as Abraham Verghese, Kahled Hosseini, and Barbara Kingsolver, to name a few.

But my go-to books, the ones I grab off the shelf as soon as they are published, are Janet Evanovich, Mary Kay Andrews, Dave Barry, Carl Hiaasen, Helen Fielding, Sophie Kinsella, Jen Lancaster … you get my drift. Fun, a bit of suspense, but nothing too creepy, with a generous helping of sarcasm. I like a book that makes me laugh out loud.

These authors appeal to me because their writing mimics the talk that goes on in my head. I see humor in mundane events. I love the quirks and eccentricities of the people I encounter. I love catching unusual phrases and expressions people say. All of these, combined with my own, often bizarre experiences, found their own reality in Relatively inSane, and hopefully, will meld into a plot in future stories.

June 20th

The taste of bile was his first conscious sensation, the pounding in his left temple the second. Forcing one eye open, he realized he lay on a concrete floor in a pool of befoulment so ripe, vomit again rose in the back of his throat. Despite the pain and vertigo, he pushed himself up on one elbow to lean against the steel post beside him. He could barely make out his surroundings in the black night. Adjusting to the dark, he remembered where he was.

What had happened? Someone… That’s right. Someone hit him; knocked him out. The effort to remember made his head throb so hard his eyes bulged. Oh yeah. That bitch. That goddamned bitch had clubbed him. He’d kill her for this.

What was that? Footsteps? Yes, behind him. By the swamp. It had to be her.

Lifting his chin from his chest, he turned his head toward the noise.
